Before I read this for the first time I always assumed the charge of the light brigade was stupid, madness, and which achieved nothing because they all get massacred. It’s I guess somewhat reassuring to know it was stupid, madness, but they did reach the Russians and scatter them, before making it back to their starting positions - just half of them died.
