A Biography of NATO

Interesting that until as late as the early 1950s, NATO was assuming war would be a WW2-style clash of huge numbers of divisions and tanks, lasting years, with only occasional Hiroshima-style atomic blasts. You generally think of the entire cold war as having the same dynamic with regard to nuclear weapons, but it was only by the late 1960s and ICBMs that that happened.
